Lemuroid is an open-source multi system emulator frontend for Android that supports a wide range of systems, including NES, SNES, Game Boy, PlayStation, and more. It is designed as a simpler alternative to RetroArch, offering features like ROM scanning, quick save/load, customizable controls, and cloud save sync.

Lemuroid Setup Instructions
This guide will walk you through the process of setting up Lemuroid on your Android device.
Step 1: Install Lemuroid from Google Play Store
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
- Search for “Lemuroid”.
- Locate the app by Filippo Scognamiglio.
- Tap “Install” to download and install the app.
Step 2: Initial Setup
Before setting up Lemuroid, make sure you have game ROMs ready. Many retro games can be legally downloaded from sites like itch.io, which offers free homebrew games.
- Open Lemuroid after installation.
- The first screen will prompt you to select a ROM directory. Tap ‘Select Directory’.
- If prompted, grant storage access permissions to Lemuroid.
- Navigate to the folder on your device where your ROMs are stored and select it.
Step 3: Import Game ROMs
- After selecting the ROM directory, Lemuroid will scan and import your games.
- If Lemuroid detects box art for the games, it will import that too.
- You can mark games as favorites by long-pressing a game title and selecting ‘Add to favorites’.Note: If games are not importing, make sure the ROM files are not compressed in .zip, .rar, or .7z formats, as this can cause issues.
Step 4: Navigation
Lemuroid’s interface includes five main icons at the bottom:
- Home: Takes you back to your game library.
- Favourites: Displays any games you have marked as favorites.
- Search: Search for specific games in your library.
- Systems: Shows a list of the emulated systems (e.g., SNES, Sega Master System).
- Settings: Access Lemuroid’s settings.
Step 5: Choose a Game
- Tap the game you want to play from your library.
- The game will launch automatically.
Step 6: Control Options
- By default, Lemuroid displays on-screen touch controls if no external controller is connected.
- To use an external Bluetooth controller, connect it to your Android device before opening Lemuroid. It should be detected automatically.
- If you need to adjust controller mappings, go to Settings > External Devices to remap the buttons.
Step 7: Saving and Loading Game States
Lemuroid allows you to save and load game states, a feature that lets you instantly save or reload your game progress.
- Open the in-game menu by holding the menu icon (three horizontal lines).
- To save your game, select ‘Save’ and choose a slot.
- To load a saved state, select ‘Load’ and choose the corresponding save slot.

- ROM directory: Change or rescan the folder where your ROMs are stored.
- Save states: Enable automatic save states.
- HD Mode: Toggle HD mode for improved graphics.
- Display filters: Set default filters for visual effects.
- Input settings: Adjust vibration and external controller mapping.
- Cloud saves: Configure cloud saving options.
- Default emulator cores: Set default emulators for different game systems.
- BIOS detection: Verify if required BIOS files are detected.
