This step-by-step guide will walk you through the process of downloading, setting up, and using Retro Virtual Machine.
Step 1: Download Retro Virtual Machine
- Go to the Retro Virtual Machine website via the links above.
- Select the version compatible with your operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Linux).
- Download the installation file.
Step 2: Install Retro Virtual Machine
- After downloading, open the installation file.
- Drag the Retro Virtual Machine icon to your desktop or preferred location.

- Highlight “Amstrad CPC” and select the 6128 model (which includes a built-in disk drive).
- Click “Next.”
- Choose your preferred language (top option is English).
- Name your virtual machine (e.g., “CPC6128”) and save it.
Step 6: Power On the Virtual Machine
- Click the power button at the top of the interface.
- The virtual machine will boot up like a real Amstrad CPC 6128.

- Select the disk option to insert a virtual floppy disk.
- Click “Insert” and locate your game file (e.g., “Trantor: The Last Stormtrooper”).
- Double-click the game file to insert it into the virtual machine’s drive.
- Type in “cat” and press enter to list the disk contents, so you can verify the filenames.
- You want to launch the .bas file, which is easy to do. Simply type run”trantor (There is no need to include the .bas extension).
Step 8: Adjust Display Settings
- Go to the screen settings to modify scan lines, add RF connection fuzz, or create a screen curvature effect for an authentic old-school look.
Step 9: Configure Controls
- Connect your controller to your device.
- The emulator should automatically detect and configure the controller.

- Open a new virtual machine and select ZX Spectrum.
